JAMMU, Mar 1: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday held separate protests in Jammu against the imposition of property tax in the Union Territory.
The J&K National Conference protest, led by Chander Mohan Sharma, District President Jammu Urban, and Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President Jammu, JKNC, condemned the imposition of property tax, calling it “arbitrary and undemocratic”.
They demanded that the order be withdrawn immediately and that the decision to impose taxes should be made by the elected government in J&K.
Meanwhile, the PDP protest, organised by the Jammu Urban District unit of the Party, also condemned the BJP-led administration for pushing the people of the J&K UT to the wall by imposing tax on them and for its (administration’s) alleged failure to prevent the selective killings in Kashmir Valley.
The PDP leaders criticised the Government for imposing the taxes on poor people, saying it was shamelessly pursuing anti-people policies.
They argued that the decision to impose taxes should be left to the elected Government in J&K.
