NC pays tributes to Sheikh Nazir

JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, Feb 24: National Conference today paid floral tributes to Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, the former general secretary of the party, on his fifth death anniversary at a function, held at party office Jammu today.
Senior NC leaders recalled the contributions of Sheikh Nazir in strengthening bonds of amity and brotherhood, saying his unflinching faith in inclusiveness was hallmark of his chequered political career.
They dwelt upon various facets of the selfless services rendered by Sheikh Nazir, a firm believer in secularism and unity of the Jammu and Kashmir, and said he remained a strength and motivating force behind the National Conference cadre.
They said Nazir was connected to the workers at grass- roots level, adding that he stood by his cherished principles till his last without opting for any position in the Government. They described him a towering leader who believed in perfection, which helped in steering the premier political party of J&K to newer heights.
National Conference leaders said that Late Nazir will continue to inspire the cadre because of his simplicity, dedication and high degree of political acumen. They said the former general secretary worked tirelessly for betterment of the people, especially poor, and strengthened the party at grass roots level and carrying forward the mission of towering leader Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah.
“Nazir shaped the destiny of National Conference as a strong mass movement that strived for dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of caste, creed or religion”, the NC leaders added.
Meanwhile, a similar function was held at party office Srinagar where party leaders paid rich tributes to Sheikh Nazir.
A commemorative meet was held at party headquarters, where party’s senior leader and Member of Parliament Mohd Akbar Lone led the party functionary in paying homage to the veteran leader.
Addressing the meet, Lone recalled his immense contribution towards the party. He said Late Nazir has created a poignant vacuum in our polity. His services and sacrifices are a legend. Lone further said Nazir always maintained that grass root level workers are the corner stone of organizational democracy.
Party provincial secretary Showkat Ahmad Mir, District president Srinagar Pir Afaq also paid homage to the party veteran.
Recalling the qualities of party veteran, party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said: “Late Nazir was so familiar and loved in party.  A repository of knowledge and political acumen, he was always concerned about common people.”
