JAMMU, May 27: Jammu and Kashmir today reported 37 COVID fatalities and 2769 cases. Jammu region accounted for 24 deaths including a senior National Conference leader and seven women and 964 positives.
Jammu district reported 10 casualties, Rajouri six, Kathua four, Samba two and Ramban and Poonch districts one each. Seven women were among the latest COVID victims while one person died at home.
National Conference provincial vice president for Jammu Gurdeep Singh Sasan died of post-COVID related complications in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. He was undergoing treatment for COVID in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital for past 20 days. Only three days back, he had tested negative for the virus. He breathed his last this evening.
“Very sorry to have lost another colleague G. S. Sasan ji to this terrible COVID virus. He did a lot of social work alongside his role as an active politician. He helped strengthen @JKNC in his capacity as provincial vice president for Jammu province. May his soul rest in peace,” NC vice president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted on the death of Sasan.
A 24-year-old youth from Hiranagar and 35-year-old from Dewal Billawar, both in Kathua district, succumbed to COVID-19 in the GMC Jammu and ASCOMS Sidhra respectively.
Meanwhile, wife of a senior IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir, who is a doctor, has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted in the ICU of the GMC Jammu. However, her condition is stable.
Two Executive Councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh including Ghulam Mehdi and Stanzin Chospel have tested positive for COVID-19, reports in Jammu said. Apart from them, 18 staff members of the LAHDC Leh have also been found infected. After positive cases, the Hill Council office has been closed for two days.
A 51-year-old Revenue Department official Mohammad Jaffer, hailing from Pishu Kargil died of Coronavirus in Kargil today.
Two COVID casualties were reported from RS Pura including a 90-year-old woman from Ganda and 76-year-old female from Salehar. Other COVID casualties in Jammu district occurred at Bakshi Nagar, Janipura Indira Colony, New Rehari, Trikuta Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Greater Kailash and Roop Nagar.
Six Corona fatalities in Rajouri district took place at Bakhar Sunderbani, Fatehpur, Kakore, Bathuni, Darhal and Katarmal while two other deaths in Kathua district came from Shastri Nagar and Ward No. 1 Dadwara Billawar. Two deaths in Samba district were reported from Sujana Ghagwal and Sarore Adda. One COVID death each took place at Banihal in Ramban district and Surankote in Poonch.
Twenty four deaths have taken Corona toll in Jammu region to 1808, the maximum being 1013 in Jammu district followed by169 in Rajouri, 127 Kathua, 116 Udhampur, 105 Samba, 86 Doda, 77 Poonch, 49 Ramban, 35 Reasi and 31 in Kishtwar district.
As against 964 fresh positive cases, 1760 persons today recovered from the virus bringing down the number of active positives in Jammu region below 17,000 from around 21,000 about 10 days back.
Among 964 new cases, 384 were reported from Jammu district, 102 Reasi, 95 Rajouri, 88 Doda, 78 Ramban, 63 Udhampur, 50 Kathua, 47 Poonch, 35 Samba and 22 in Kishtwar district.
Among 1760 recoveries, 672 were recorded in Jammu district, 264 Rajouri, 249 Udhampur, 158 Kathua, 149 Samba, 116 Kishtwar, 51 Reasi, 46 Ramban, 43 Doda and 12 in Poonch district.
Jammu region now has 1,08,576 Corona cases including 16904 active positives and 89864 recoveries while there have been 1808 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today also reported two COVID casualties and 235 fresh cases.
Apart from a Revenue official of Kargil, an 82-year-old man died of Coronavirus in Leh. He belonged to village Ney.
Out of 235 new cases, 196 were reported from Leh and 39 in Kargil.
Ladakh’s Corona count has gone up to 18045 including 1664 active positives, 16200 recoveries and 181 casualties. The casualties include 132 in Leh and 49 in Kargil.
