BANIHAL, May 26: NC district president Ramban, Sajjad Shaheen today expressed concern over losses suffered by farmers due to heavy hailstorm in peripheral areas of Banihal and demanded immediate relief to the affected families.
In a handout Shaheen said that heavy hailstorm that lashed higher reaches of Banihal areas the other day has in particular affected hamlets like Mahoo, Mangit, Trigam, Kutji, Sarachi and some other villages at higher reaches of Ramban.
“The unusual spell of rain accompanied by gusty winds and hailstorms lashed many parts of Banihal on Thursday evening causing widespread damage to maize and other crops,” the NC leaders maintained adding: “The severe weather conditions that lasted for hours played havoc with standing crops and destroyed the months of hard work of our farmers.”
He further said that the hailstorm has significantly caused fatal trauma to the people and cattle at various places and the heavy downpour badly hit orchids, shrubbery, electricity transmission lines at various other places as well.
Shaheen also said that district administration should access the losses suffered by farmers and horticulturalists and give them proper compensation.
