SRINAGAR, May 31: The MLA Shopian Shabir Ahmad Kullay today launched a blistering attack on the National Conference-led Government, describing it as “a poison” for the people of Kashmir and alleging that it was working against the interests of J&K.
Addressing a press conference, Kullay claimed that the Government had failed to address pressing public concerns and was instead focused on personal and political interests.
“This Government is a poison for the people of Kashmir. They are focused on making money while ignoring the real issues faced by the people,” Kullay alleged.

The legislator further claimed that the NC-led Government would not last long due to what he termed its anti-people policies.
“I have already said that this Government will not last long because it is working against the interests of the people of J&K,” he said.
Kullay also accused the ruling party of betraying the mandate it received in the Assembly elections and questioned its handling of key issues, including the pending report on the reservation policy.
“The NC received a huge mandate to protect the people of J&K and safeguard their rights. People believed the party would protect them, and that is why they voted for it,” he said.
The MLA also alleged that elected representatives were being sidelined by the Government and that major decisions were being taken without consulting legislators.
Referring to a recent review meeting convened by the Minister Sakeena Itoo, Kullay alleged that Shopian was deliberately ignored despite being a district headquarters.
The MLA further accused the National Conference of historically neglecting Shopian and attempting to diminish the district’s importance.
“For over 40 years, the NC has worked against the interests of Shopian, and even today there appears to be a conspiracy to ignore the district,” he claimed.
Kullay said he would raise the issue with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during a meeting later this week.
He also targeted Minister Sakeena Itoo, alleging that she was functioning as a party office-bearer rather than a Minister and was pursuing her own political agenda.
The MLA also spoke about the closure of Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom, alleging that the National Conference had a role in the matter as the Education Department falls under the Government’s jurisdiction.
He claimed that attempts were being made to portray the issue as a decision of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, but asserted that directions had been issued to ensure that the institution was modernised and upgraded rather than permanently shut down.
