NC, Cong supporting Regional Councils to turn table on BJP-PDP Govt: MPEJ

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 23: Movement for Peace and Equality today said that  National Conference and Congress were joining  the Regional Council bandwagon  only to turn table on BJP-PDP dispensation.
“Those who ruled the state over more than 6 decades are now saying that formation of Regional Councils is the only solution to give an end to the discriminations and  disparities,” said  Ram Singh Chouhan and  Kuldeep Kumar Rao,  active members of Movement for Peace, Equality & Justice,  in a joint press statement, issued here today.
They attributed the present J&K situation to series of broken promises made by successive Governments with the people of State. “The recommendations of several commissions appointed by Government  of India,  like Gajinder Gadkar Commission, Sarkaria Commission, Wazir Commission, 5 working groups and  lastly three Inter locators, are gathering dust in the corridors of power be,” they said and added  that  the commitments made in Delhi Agreement of 1953 “something has to be given to the people of J&K State” never saw the day of light and  now when both Congress and  NC were  out of power, they wanted  to turn table on BJP-PDP combine dispensation and demanding  three Regional Councils.
“However, it is a welcome change in their minds and we have always been advocating constitution of three Regional Councils- one each for Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh to be run by local representatives duly elected by public through democratic manner having constitutionally guaranteed powers in respect of planning, execution and  monitoring,” they said adding that in this way no area will remain unrepresented and no area can clamor of neglect or discrimination.
