JAMMU, Jan 10: Bimla Luthra, former MLA and National Conference Women Wing Vice-President, claimed that her party is committed to the empowerment of the women.
She highlighted the steps taken by the National Conference Government in the former State of Jammu and Kashmir to uplift women.
Luthra was speaking at a meeting of district presidents of the Women’s Wing in Jammu province, which was organized by Rajni Devi, Working president of the Jammu province Women’s Wing. The meeting was chaired by Satwant Kour Dogra, provincial president of the Jammu province Women’s Wing.
Satwant Kour Dogra emphasized that the National Conference has always been a platform for women’s political, economic and social growth.
She noted that during Dr Farooq Abdullah’s tenure as Chief Minister, the NC Government had reserved 50% of medical seats in colleges for daughters of Jammu and Kashmir.
Luthra reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring equality for women in all sectors-political, educational, economic, technological, and social.
She added that National Conference will continue to advocate for women’s rights and address issues of discrimination in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rajni Devi, in her address, urged the district presidents to support the party leadership in the upcoming Panchayat and Local Body elections.
She stressed the importance of strengthening the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, and emphasized the significant role women play in shaping the future of the community.
Vijay Laxami Datta, senior leader and Member DDC Dansal, and Shamima Begum also addressed the meeting. They urged rural women to unite and work for the upliftment of women, especially in rural areas.
The meeting was attended by several key leaders, including Pardeep Bali, Provincial Secretary Jammu, Vijay Lochan, Chairman SC Cell, Rakesh Singh Raka, Vice President Central Zone, and others.
