SAMBA, Nov 23: Exuding confidence that National Conference will leave an indelible mark in the upcoming District Development Council elections, former Minister and senior leader Surjeet Singh Slathia today said that a stable political structure is imperative for meeting challenges and steering J&K to peace, progress and development.
“The NC has a credible record of public service and ushering J&K to unprecedented development during different spells of governance in the past over four decades”, Slathia said while addressing people during nomination of candidates for the upcoming elections.
He said the people are sagacious enough to choose their representatives to the grassroot level democratic institutions. This will enable them to serve the people and undoing wrongs committed due to lack of representative governance, he said, adding that the Jammu region has suffered the most as the balloon of the BJP’s promises burst in recent years.
Slathia said the people had pinned many hopes with the BJP but their betrayal has left them devastated. He said personal agenda of the BJP team in the Government prevailed over public interest, as a result of which Jammu region suffered adversely on the front of development, implementation of welfare schemes and jobs to youth.
He said the people of Jammu are determined to teach a lesson to those who betrayed their 2014 mandate. He slammed the BJP for non-fulfilment of promises over the years. Slathia exhorted NC workers to remain steadfast in their mission of serving the people, saying the party has surmounted turbulent winds with fortitude and there is no reason why it will not emerge as a force to reckon with.
The occasion marked the nomination of NC candidates Prem Pal from Ramgarh B and Harpreet Kour from Ramgarh C.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chairman BDC Vijaypur Jogeshwar Singh Jamwal, Chairman BDC Ramgarh Darshan Choudhary besides Panches and Sarpanchs.
