Addressing one day convention of the National Conference, organized by Bimla Luthra former MLA, Shamima said that there is an alarming rise in crime across Jammu and Kashmir. It has become a matter of grave concern for every citizen. The law and order situation appears to be deteriorating with each passing day, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the agencies entrusted with maintaining peace and security.
Shamima highlighted key initiatives taken by the Omar Govt including free travel for women in Govt buses, enhancement of marriage assistance from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 for poor families, provision of 200 units of free electricity per month for AAY households, doubling of the monthly ration quota from 5 Kg to 10 Kg per person for AAY beneficiaries, enhancement of old age/ handicapped/widow pension.
Provincial president, Rattan Lal Gupta said it is deeply unfortunate and disturbing that, as reported in media, around 6 to 7 young girls and women have reportedly gone missing every month in district Kathua over the past year. It has created fear, anxiety, and insecurity among families, particularly among women and young girls.
Gupta said that the continued disappearance of young women and the apparent failure of the law and order agencies to trace them promptly expose serious shortcomings in the functioning of the law enforcement machinery. The people of Kathua and the entire Jammu region deserve answers. He demanded that a high-level, time-bound investigation into all reported cases of missing girls and women in Kathua district must be ordered.
