JAMMU, Aug 10: National Conference workers from block Mandal Phallain organized one day protest dharna at Nikki Tawi bridge against failure of the Government to solve the problems of 45 villages of this Tawi island area.
The protestors led by former Minister and senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra were demanding immediate construction of temporary bridge over Nikki Tawi, construction of road from 4th bridge Jammu to Doana Morh Mandal Phallain and construction of new bridge over Nikki Tawi.
Addressing protestors, senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra said that present BJP-PDP Government is playing with the aspirations of the people. He said in last September flash floods, Nikki Tawi bridge was washed away and the then Govt headed by Omar Abdullah immediately contacted Army and installed Pontoon bridge over Nikki Tawi. After the coming of new Govt, that bridge was removed and people of 45 villages started facing lot of difficulties in absence of communication.
The Government assured the people of Mandal Phallain that temporary bridge will be ready by May but unfortunately till date there is no sign of temporary bridge. Government also assured the people that in the absence of bridge a road from 4th bridge to Doana Morh Mandal Phallain shall be constructed but unfortunately it is also incomplete. The Govt has assured that new bridge will be taken up at the earliest but till date there is no sign of start of the bridge.
The Govt is least bothered about the problems of the people and it has become habitual of making false promises and announcements. He further said that the people of Mandal Phallain are facing lot of hardships in absence of communication.
Mr Sadhotra appealed the Governor to intervene so that the temporary bridge could be completed at an earliest. The road should be completed for communication and new bridge be taken up without any delay.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Subash Chander, Block president, Raghubir Singh- chairman, Bishan Dass Sarpanch (Block secretary), Baru Ram- Sarpanch, Khajoor Ram, Karan Singh and Master Hans Raj.
