Navratra Festival begins at Lakshmi Narayan Temple

JAMMU, Oct 14: First Navratra Festival took off to an impressive start here last evening in premises of Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple Gandhi Nagar with a colorful and enjoyable “Fancy Dress Show” and “Rangoli Comp-etition” of tiny tots.
Launched for the first time by Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple Management Trust as part of its initiatives to create and strengthen religious environment during festivals, the Festival attracted a large number of people who enjoyed the mix of religious discourses and entertainment. The Director Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu, Anjali Sharma was the special guest. The Festival has been conceptualized and designed by Oma Katal. About a hundred children took part in the inaugural show.
The Festival opened with traditional impressive Ganesh-vandana, presented by a group of 27 students of Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Jammu. The Tiny tots stole the opening day show. Dressed in colorful attires in the “Swaroop”of God and Goddesses, the children in the age group of three to 10 years, descended on the stage one after another and introduced themselves and recited “Shaloks”.
The Rangoli competition was no less fascinating. Over 26 schools students and individuals made striking Rangoli pictures of different God and Goddesses by using different material creation which had spell bound effect. Four schools and one individual made seven Rangoli. Nisha, a housewife, won the 1st prize, the 2nd prize went to Keshav and Himanashi of Dogra Hr. Sec. School Shastri Nagar and 3rd prize to Priya , Neha, Bhawna & Sonia of Dogra Hr Sec. School. Consolation Prizes were also given to Taranjit, Varsha and Sagar.
The president of the Trust, Th Gulchain Singh Charak gave details of the Navratra festival and urged the devotees to participate daily in these shows and seek blessings of the Mata.
