JAMMU, May 13: The 34th Foundation Day of Natrang will mark two day festival featuring two contrast theatre presentations.
This was disclosed by Natrang Director Balwant Thakur in a press briefing which was held here this evening at Natrang Studio Theatre. On May 14, 2016, Internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ will be presented at Abhinav Theatre Jammu at 5.30 pm in association with Airtel featuring senior actors like Vikrant Sharma and Anil Tickoo and on May 15, 2016, English play ‘Henry & Anne’-the lovers who changed the history will be presented at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu at 5.30 pm.
Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ written and directed by Balwant Thakur is based on a folk tale whereas ‘Henry and Anne’ written and directed by Aarushi Thakur is based on the works of William Shakespeare, and the private letters of King Henry VIII to his lover Anne Boleyn. The play highlights the affair of the king with a commoner for whom he leaves his wife, the princess of Spain and breaks the English Church from the Roman Church, tearing apart the religious sentiments of all the Catholics in England in the 15th Century. What is so special in this love story that makes it different from other love stories? And why after almost 500 years people are still inspired by the affair of lady Anne and the King Henry? All these quests will be answered through this maiden presentation of this play Henry & Anne which is being presented to celebrate the completion of 33 years of Natrang’s most happening years of existence.
The writer and director of this play Aarushi Thakur is a post graduate in International Politics from university of Leicester, United Kingdom and has undertaken theatre training programs from Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London and National School of Drama in Direction.
Elaborating the accomplishments of 33 years of Natrang, Balwant Thakur informed that in these glorious years of creatively exciting happenings, Natrang through the selfless efforts of thousands of Natrang missionaries brought the J&K theatre to world spotlight and its highly acclaimed plays vibrated the global theatre scene and proudly travelled the whole length and breadth of the country in addition to crossing the boundaries of India and won appreciation in Russia, Germany, UK, Singapore, Turkey, Hungary, Poland, and UAE and thus established a globally acknowledged brand called ‘Natrang’.
