National seminar on changing styles of Kashmiri Nazam writing begins at KU

SRINAGAR, July 17 : Hundreds of Kashmiri scholars and academicians today were part of a  two day national seminar  on changing styles of  Nazam writing in Kashmiri which  began  here in the  conference  hall of the humanities block today .
The national seminar is being organised  by the Post Graduate Department of Kashmiri .
Inaugurating the seminar in presence of a galaxy of national level Kashmiri scholars Vice chancellor Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad  said the Department of Kashmir at Kashmir University has  to be the flagship department  of  the University and his administration would do everything to strength it in terms of infrastructure and faculty. ”  Now that the Department has been provided new spacious accommodation we will focus on their infrastructure  and faculty in future : said VC KU  to the applause of the audience adding that  there will be a special package for the Department  in our 12th plan.
Speaking on the theme VC  talked about the  importance of mother tongue and said one should be proud of it native language .” reiterating his commitment  that he would learn Kashmir language during his tenure VC said that he has started understaffing the language and now his efforts would be to learn speak it as well.VC also released the latest issue of Anhaar the prestigious annual  publication of the Department.
Head of the Department Kashmir Prof Majrooh Rashid in his welcome address  talked about  various aspects of the theme and said that the present seminar will go a long way in  understanding  various dimensions and evolution of Kashmir Nazam. Prof Majrooh Rashid said the seminar is an  attempt to understand the rich literature in the form of “Nazam” and see the challenges this genre of poetry has a head of it. Prof  Majroh said that  there are about 100 standard publications which the Department of Kashmir has contributed over the years.
Noted academician writer  and poet Prof Shafi Shouqe pleaded to lift all restrictions of the style of “Nazam”, something echoed by noted Kashmir poet and Gyan peeth awardee prof Rehma Rahi who was the chief guest at the event .”
Noted  writer  and Member Legislative council MLC Muhammad Yousuf Teng in his presidential remarks  said that  in the scenario of changing attitudes, values,  life style and  changing meanings to relation ships Ghazal has lost its relevance today and instead he advocated that in the present  age Nazam can best portray and give catharsis to  these feelings and attitudes.
The seminar was conducted by Prof Ratan Lal Talashi faculty Department of Kashmir  who also presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
