JAMMU, Feb 2: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked after fresh landslides in Ramban area today.
IGP Traffic, SA Watali told the Excelsior that movement of vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway came to halt in the morning at around 9 am when fresh landslides took place at Mehar, about 4 kms short of Ramban. It was massive and road could not be cleared till this evening.
He said some light vehicles were allowed to move via Maitra using old Chenab bridge at Ramban and nearly 1400 vehicles were cleared for Srinagar. But fresh landslides at Anokhifall near Panthial blocked the National Highway completely at around 5 pm this evening.
Watali said that there will be no movement of vehicles tomorrow on the highway. About 500 passenger vehicles have been stranded in Batote and Chanderkote areas.
He said the one way traffic will be resumed only after clearance of road tomorrow, that too, if the weather remained fair. He said that a large number of vehicles have been stranded at other places also and National Highway authorities have pressed men and machinery to clear the highway.
