Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘J&K gets whopping over Rs 500 Cr under NHM’ DE Aug 18. The money sanctioned under National Health Mission for the J&K health sector will act as a booster. The health sector in the State is not upto the mark, though Government functionaries claim otherwise. The rural health sector needs attention, as people living in remote parts do not get sufficient medicare.
Though health centres have been set up in almost every village, these PHCs do not have neither sufficient staff nor medicines.
The absence of doctors is a cause of worry. This is an open secret that doctors posted in rural areas usually play traunt, leaving the patients at the mercy of paramedical staff.
The Government must keep rural health centres on priority. The money received under NHM can be utilised for upgrading machinery and in buying medicines for these centres. However, one thing that needs to be ensured is that the Government should not compromise on quality.
Yours etc….
Hans Raj
