National Education Day celebrated with zeal across J&K

JAMMU, Nov 11: National Education Day, which is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (the first Education Minister of independent India, a great freedom fighter and eminent educationalist, was celebrated today with great enthusiasm across the union territory of J&K.
Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu commemorated the Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad by organizing a slogan writing competition on the topic “The importance of Education and the Nation’s commitment to all aspects of Education”. Vivek Parihar from Department of Dogri, Chetan Sharma from Department of Sociology and Deepak Singh from The Law School secured first, second and third positions, respectively. Certificate of Merit was awarded to Srishti Koul from Department of Chemistry.
Students of NSS Committee of Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) celebrated National Education Day along with the students of Government Middle School, Amb, Jammu. The programme started with the MIET students conducting computer literacy classes for the School students on computers which were earlier donated by MIET. Later a cultural programme was presented by the school students in which they touched upon vital social issues of drug menace, saving environment and national security.
An inter-departmental symposium was organized by the Co-curricular Committee of MIER College to celebrate National Education Day. The theme of the symposium was “Professional Ethics”. Dr Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College was the chief guest on the occasion. About 14 students from the UG and PG Department participated in the symposium. Ashit Toppo from BEd semester 1st, Anjeshri from BEd semester 1st and Naeema from MA Education semester 1st were adjudged as 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners, respectively.
To mark the occasion, Literary Club in collaboration with IQAC of Government MAM College, Jammu organized a one-day seminar cum slogan and poster writing competition on the topic ‘New Education Policy’. The function commenced with floral tributes to 1st Education Minister of Independent India, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad. A total of 35 students participated in the seminar and presented their papers on the topic. The prize for best paper presentation was bagged by Shikhar Sharma of 3rd semester.
In order to celebrate the Day, Government Degree College (GDC) Bishnah organized a lecture on ‘National Education Day’. Principal, Dr Kulvinder Kour was the chief guest. In her speech, Dr Kour advocated for ‘Education for all’, stating that education enlighten the society and strengthen the nation. On the occasion, Prof Priyanka Mahajan deliberated at length about the vision and mission of National Education Policy.
GDC RS Pura celebrated National Education Day under the guidance of Principal Dr Sunita Sudan and supervision of Prof Bindu Kumari, Department of Botany and Prof Sandeep, Department of Education. NSS volunteers namely Sourav Sharma, Poornima, Aastha, Neha, Ankita spoke on the life history of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and the first Union Minister of Education. Dr Sunita Sudan also enlightened the students about various Pre and Post-Independence activities carried out by Maulana Azad.
To celebrate the occasion, para legal volunteers of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu in association with principals, Head Masters and faculty members of educational institutions including Anganwari centres, educated the students and masses about the need and importance of education for all round development of the children and free and compulsory elementary education to every child. They also made the children aware on their other fundamental rights and welfare schemes.
National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) also celebrated the Day at party headquarters, where while addressing party chief Rajesh Gupta said, Maulana Azad was a key architect of education in independent India. He remembered the exemplary contributions of Maulana Azad in nation-building, institution-building and particularly his indelible imprints in the field of education. ”The institutions that Maulana Azad founded bear testimony to his vision and his farsightedness,” added Rajesh Gupta.
National Education Day was also celebrated in various schools of Samba district. To celebrate the occasion, a function was organized at Vijaypur High Secondary School under the supervision of the School Principal, Fateh Singh. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal highlighted contributions of first Education Minister of independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in the field of education.
In Udhampur district, Bhartiya Vidya Mandir High School celebrated National Education Day with great enthusiasm. The programme started with lighting of traditional lamp and recitation of Saraswati Vandana by the staff and students of the School. At last, Principal of the School Renu Sharma paid floral tributes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
With an aim to spread awareness on importance of education in the society, Army celebrated “National Education Day” at Government School, Chunga, Kotli, Dera Ki Gali (DKG), Bisali and Youth Centre, Palma in Poonch and Rajouri Districts. On the occasion, a variety of activities were organized to include motivational lectures and essay writing competition.
