JAMMU, Feb 7: National conference on the theme “Women Empowerment through Agro Entrepreneurship for Livelihood Security” began today at Main Campus Chatha of SKUAST-Jammu.
SIDAVES (Society for Integrated Development of Agriculture, Veterinary and Ecological Science) & SKUAST-Jammu / SKUAST-Kashmir are jointly organizing this two-day national event, in which more than 300 distinguished Scientists and policy makers having specialization in Agriculture / Veterinary / Ecological Sciences are participating.
In the inaugural function, Deputy Director General (DDG) ICAR, Dr N S Rathore was the chief guest while Brand Ambassador Beti Bachao Beti Parao Veena Arora was the guest of honor. VC SKUAST-J Prof Pradeep K Sharma, VC Central University of Jammu Prof Ashok Aima and Convenor & Director Research of SKUAST-J, Dr J P Sharma were in the presidium on dais.
Dr N S Rathore informed that women empowerment has five components namely gender equality, education, health, economic and political participation while out of all these, economic empowerment has relatively more relevant as it will enable women take initiatives at their own because of right over financial resources.
Veena Arora emphasized that the empowerment / autonomy of women and the improvement of women’s social, economic, political status is essential for the achievement of both transparent / accountable government and sustainable development in all areas of life.
Prof Pradeep K Sharma said that women empowerment has assumed global significance in view of various international initiatives and commitments taken by the world community.
Dr JP Sharma, while giving detail on the subject, informed that this conference will have thorough exploration on different areas of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary and Social Sciences to score avenues for women empowerment.
Dr Shalini Suri, organizing secretary, hoped that the recommendations derived out from the deliberations on various issues will go a long way to empower women specifically in the State of Jammu and Kashmir
Besides all the Statutory Officers, HoDs, Faculty members / students of the varsity, the function was attended by Director Education Dr TAS Ganai, Director Planning Dr Deepak Kher, Registrar Rajesh Talwar, Dean FBSc Dr Rizvi, Dean FVSc Dr Zama, president Teaching Dr Vikas Sharma and president Non- Teaching P D K Uppal. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Narinder Panotra and Dr Kawardeep Kour while formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Kiran Kour, Co-Organizing Secretary of the conference.
