NEW DELHI, Dec 6: The National Competition Policy is in the finalisation stage and the state governments are broadly in agreement with the proposal, Parliament was informed today.
“With a view to make the ‘culture of Competition’ an intrinsic part of governance at each tier of administration – Centre, State or local body–, the Government is considering bringing out a National Competition Policy, which is at the stage of finalisation, “ Minister of Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
The Minister also said that the State governments are broadly in agreement with the proposed policy.
Besides, the government had invited comments and initiated consultations with various sections of the society such as stakeholders, industry, law firms, researchers and economists, among others, and has incorporated their responses suitably in the policy, he added.
Regarding amendments to the Competition Act, Pilot said a bill to amend the legislation is likely to be introduced in the current session of Parliament itself.
“In light of the experience gained in the working of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the suggestions of an Expert Committee appointed for the purpose, certain amendments in the Competition Act have been finalised,” he said. (PTI)
