Ward No. 40 faces manifold problems

JAMMU: The residents of Ward Number 40 faced manifold problems on account of shortage of drinking water, dilapidated condition of lanes and drains, damaged street lights and insanitary conditions.
While talking to the Excelsior, the residents revealed the problems being faced by them due to shortage of drinking water.
“Shortage of drinking water is the most important required to be addressed on priority basis. Without water, we can’t do our routine work including cooking and washing, etc”, Sushma Sharma said.
The ward comprised of Bharat Nagar, Priyadarshni Lane, Durga Nagar, Basant Vihar, Kabir Nagar, Vishal Nagar, etc. areas.
Ïnsanitary condition is also a main issue, which the residents faced. Heaps of garbage can be seen easily in the areas falling under this ward.
“The insanitary condition in our ward required immediate attention as it is the issue to be addressed on priority as fear of breaking out of health related problems looms large”, another resident Rakesh Sharma said.
In our ward, the lanes and drains need to be repaired immediately. Choked drains should be cleaned for the free flow of water, which comes out of the houses”, he said, adding that dumping of garbage is also an issue in our Ward, which the Corporator should take care of.
The issue of dilapidated condition of the lanes and drains also came to fore while interacting with the residents, to which they said that they have elected an honest and dedicated Municipal Corporator, who will sort out the issue in the shortest possible time.
Damaged street light is also main issue in this Ward, which needs immediate attention and darkness during evening hours creates problems for the people particularly ladies.
“For the past 5 years, the street lights installed in this Ward have not been repaired. Repair work of the street light should be carried out with immediate effect for the security of the women folk residing in this ward”, Ranjana said.
When contacted newly elected Corporator of the Ward from BJP, Neelam Nargotra said that she will work for the overall development of the ward as people have posed faith on her.
All the issues including water scarcity, insanitary conditions, deplorable conditions of lanes and drains, etc will be taken up with the concerned authorities for redressal, she added.
About the issue of insanitary condition and repair work of street lights, Nargotra informed that she will take up these issues with JMC Mayor.
“Anti drugs awareness campaign will be carried out in the ward so that the parents keep watch on their wards from falling into the trap of drug menace”, she said when asked for action to be initiated against the drug menace.
