JAMMU, Nov 16: A team of Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgeons from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH) gave new lease of life to 10 children suffering from congenital heart diseases.
All the 10 surgeries were open heart surgeries. All the children were from different regions of Jammu and Kashmir such as Kathua, Sunderbani, Reasi and Jammu with one case each from Bihar and Ludhiana. They were in the age group of 2-16 years. Five were male and five were female children. They reported to SMVDNSH for their cardiac surgeries on diagnosis of their ailments.
A team of experts which includes Cardiac Surgeon, Cardiologist, Pediatric Anesthesiologist, Pediatric intensivist, Pediatric perfusion scientist, Physiotherapist, Nursing staff and other paramedical staff under the supervision of Dr Sumit J Modi, performed these open heart surgeries on the children.
Elaborating about the surgeries, Dr Sumit J Modi, Consultant- Cardiac Surgery, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), said, “There is no better reward than saving a life. It is always a challenge to do surgeries over children considering the complex natu-re of the open heart surgeries. Each of these cases was different from one another. We as a team collectively put together best efforts to treat these children and we are happy that we were able to save their lives.”
