NABARD conducts sensitisation programme on SHGs, JLGs

UDHAMPUR, Dec 15: A District Level Sensitisation Programme on Self Help Groups and Joint Liability Groups for Banks was conducted by Manohar Lal, DDM, NABARD, Udhampur, here today.
The Programme was attended by Vidya Singh Negi, LDM, Udhampur;   Satish Kumar, VP, J&K Bank, Udhampur;   Sat Pal Sharma, District Controller, PNB, Udhampur;   Om Prakash, president, Gramin Pragati Sangathan and various bankers from Udhampur district.
Manohar Lal gave an account of concept of SHG, which is a homogeneous of 8-20 women sharing similar socio economic status willing to form a group. He also discussed the Joint Liability Groups, which is an informal group comprising of 4-10 individuals coming together for the purpose of availing bank loan on individual basis or through group mechanism against mutual guarantee.
DDM NABARD informed that NABARD has implemented E-Shakti project Phase II for digitization of SHGs. The project is being implemented in 23 districts across the country and Udhampur has been selected from J&K State. He said that so far 1016 SHGs have been digitized in the district. He also shared that Phase III of E-Shakti project has also been started wherein 75 more districts in the country are being covered. It was shared with them that as per the existing system all the records of the SHGs are in manual form. Under E -Shakti all the records are in digital form and are put in a portal then all the stakeholders can have a look at the records of the SHGs which helps them in taking quick decisions regarding loaning based on the performance of the group. Hence, it would be beneficial for all stakeholders viz. NGO, SHGs, banks, NABARD and any other agency interested in associating with the SHGs.
Negi urged upon the bankers to make use of such programmes. He also asked the banks to finance more and more SHGs in the district to help rural women to improve their household incomes thereby improving their standard of living. He also said that this financing would help in improving the CD ratio of the district.
