MVD crackdown yields Rs 47.49 lakh revenue in single day

1654 challans imposed, 361 vehicles blacklisted

JAMMU, July 20: In a massive enforcement drive conducted across Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) imposed 1,654 challans and generated total revenue of Rs 47.49 lakh in a single day.
Besides, MVD officials blacklisted 361 vehicles, recommended suspension of 269 driving-related documents and seized 178 vehicles during the drive conducted yesterday.
The special UT wide drive was part of an intensified campaign to enforce traffic discipline, curb violations, and enhance road safety. The action covered all 20 districts across Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
Interestingly, all the 361 vehicles blacklisted by the MVD officials were in Kashmir division while no vehicle was blacklisted in entire Jammu Division. 119 vehicles were blacklisted in Srinagar, 94 in Pulwama, 43 in Kulgam, 37 in Ganderbal, 35 in Kupwara, 10 in Budgam, 04 in Bandipora, 08 in Baramulla, 06 in Anantnag and 05 in Shopian.
In Kashmir Division, Srinagar topped the chart with the highest number of challans at 275, generating Rs 6.15 lakh in fines. In the summer capital city, MVD authorities also recommended the suspension of 52 driving licenses (DL) and seized 44 vehicles, which were again highest in number across the UT.
Kulgam followed Srinagar with 175 challans, 43 blacklisted vehicles, suspension of 14 DLs and seizure of 30 vehicles while a fine of Rs 1.7 lakh was imposed on the defaulters. In Budgam, 135 challans were imposed, 10 vehicles blacklisted, and 13 DL recommended for suspensions, bringing in Rs 1.5 lakh in revenue. In Ganderbal, officials imposed 67 challans, blacklisted 37 vehicles and recommended suspension of 25 DLs, while collecting Rs 1.05 lakh revenue.
In Pulwama, despite issuing only 38 challans, MVD officials generated Rs 2.1 lakh revenue through fine besides blacklisting 94 vehicles and suspending 23 DLs.
Other districts such as Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, and Shopian reported penalties of Rs 1.61 lakh, Rs 0.93 lakh, Rs 2.1 lakh, Rs 0.52 lakh and Rs 1.1 lakh, respectively .
In Jammu Division, even as Jammu district witnessed highest number of 87 challans, Udhampur and Samba district generated maximum revenue of Rs 5.83 lakh and Rs 4.92 lakh , respectively.
In Jammu district, revenue of Rs 2.44 lakh was generated while three vehicles were seized and six driving licenses were recommended for suspension.
In Udhampur, 32 challans were imposed and 10 vehicles were seized while in Samba, 18 challans were imposed and 16 vehicles were seized.
Kishtwar, Kathua and Doda reported large number of document suspensions—Kishtwar with 14, Kathua with 10 and Doda with 59—including driving licenses (DL), registration certificates (RC), and route permits (RP). These districts alone generated a combined revenue of Rs 10.27 lakh. Doda generated Rs 3.1 lakh, Kathua Rs 4.8 lakh and Kishtwar Rs 1.37 lakh.
In Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar, and Poonch, number of challans imposed were 35, 60, 35, 47, 83 respectively with revenue generation of Rs 0.67 lakh, Rs 1.41 lakh, Rs 1.91 lakh, Rs 1.37 lakh and Rs 2.28 lakh, respectively.
