Srinagar, June 4: Displaying the traditional communal harmony, the Muslim neighbours in Bandipora today helped a Kashmiri Pandit family in performing last rites of their mother.
Eyewitnesses told Excelsior that the environment was so blissful that one could feel a sense of belonging attaching the Muslims and the Pandits living there for centuries.
Locals said that as soon as the news of the death of 75-year-old woman identified as Rani Bhat wife of Moti Lal Bhat spread in the area, the Muslims in the neighbourhood came hurriedly and helped the family in performing the last rites of the deceased as per their tradition.

The relatives of the deceased woman said that they themselves could not help in carrying out the last rites as they had to travel to the area from Srinagar. However, they said that once they reached Bandipora, everything was taken care of by the Muslims in the area.
Heera Lal, son of the deceased woman said that almost the entire locality had turned up for the condolence. “They were here all night and helped in whatever we had to do in cremating her. We did not have to anything, not even a single thing; they had arranged everything required for the last rites,” he said.
The local youngsters who were on the forefront during the last rites said that the deceased woman was a mother figure and that they did whatever they could.
The deceased, a resident of Kalosa Bandipora died naturally. Her husband Moti Lal Bhat had not migrated from Kashmir valley.
