JAMMU, June 11: Muslim migrants held a protest demonstration in front of Relief Organisation against stopping of relief and ration to 1251 migrant families from Kashmir since September last year.
The protest was led by president Muslim migrants, Nazir Ahmed. The protestors raising slogans in support of their demands stressed on immediate release of relief to the aggrieved families who have been forced to leave Kashmir by the militants and their harbourers in 1990 and afterwards.
The protestors termed the stopping of relief a grave injustice with the migrants who have no source of income to pull on. The protestors demanded that the relief be released immediately as some families are at the verge of starvation.
Addressing the protestors Nazir Ahmed president Muslim migrants made an appeal to the higher ups in Government to look into the matter sympathetically. He alleged that the Screening Committee framed in this regard two months back has not met or discussed the issue till date.
He said except assurances no concrete steps have been taken by the Government to settle the issue. He said though the delegation met the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner and also discussed the issue with him but no concrete assurance was given by him also.
He said RRC informed them that he had written to higher ups in the Government and the decision in this regard has to be taken at Secretariat level.
Addressing the protestors Choudhary Akbar, vice president, Muslim migrants said that they have been running from pillar to post since September last year for release of ration and relief but to no avail. He said the Government should at least release ration so that the families who have nothing to eat can keep their body and soul together.
