Murmu asks citizens to imbibe Ambedkar’s ideals to build progressive India

NEW DELHI, Apr 13 : President Droupadi Murmu on Monday greeted citizens on the eve of the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the country’s Constitution, and asked all to imbibe his ideals to contribute towards a just, inclusive and progressive India.

Babasaheb Ambedkar was a jurist, economist, profound thinker, legal scholar and a strong advocate of an egalitarian social system, she said.

He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the deprived and vulnerable sections of society and made historic contributions in their favour, Murmu said in a message.

He not only showed the path to eliminate inequalities but also played a leading role in strengthening India’s democratic values and constitutional rights, she said.

“On this occasion, let us pledge to imbibe the ideals of Babasaheb Ambedkar in our lives and contribute towards building a just, inclusive and progressive nation,” the president said.

Murmu said Ambedkar prioritised women’s education and their rights.

His multifaceted contributions will continue to inspire future generations to play an active role in the service and development of the country, she said.

Born on April 14, 1891, in a Dalit family in Maharashtra, Ambedkar rose from a humble background to become a leading voice of the marginalised people during the freedom struggle and is credited with introducing several social reforms. (PTI)
