Murder mystery solved, accused arrested

Srinagar, Jan 16: Police today solved a mysterious murder case of a woman and arrested the accused involved in the crime in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“On 21 March 2017, Mohammad Rafiq Beigh, a resident of Panzur lodged a written complaint at Police Station Tral to the effect that her daughter,  Shagufta Bano who was married five years ago with Sajad Ahmad Lone, a resident of Chankitar Tral was often troubled by her husband and his parents on petty matters,” Police spokesman said
The complaint further reads that on March 15, 2017, he received a call from the in-laws of her daughter that Shagufta Bano had suddenly fell ill and was taken to Sub District Hospital Tral, where from she was referred to Srinagar for necessary treatment but died on the way. Thereafter, the dead body of the deceased was buried in hurry with the interference of elders. But the complainant (Mohammad Rafiq Beigh) father of deceased girl raised suspicion on the death of her daughter.
Subsequently, Police Station Tral initiated proceedings under Section 174 CrPC.  During the course of inquest proceedings, the body of the deceased was exhumed and post mortem was conducted on by the team of doctors in Sub District Hospital Tral.
On perusal of the medical opinion, it was found that the death was not natural but homicidal and because of fatal injuries to her brain caused by some blunt object. Subsequently, the inquest proceedings were converted into formal FIR on 28th of October 2017 and was registered as FIR number 84/2017 under section 302 RPC and the investigation in the case was commenced.
During the course of investigation, statements of witnesses were recorded under Section 161 and 164 A CrPC. On the strength of evidence gathered, the accused was arrested on January 3, 2018. The accused is presently lodged in police custody and the investigation of the case is in progress.
