JAMMU, Jan 24: A meeting of Municipal and Urban Local Bodies Pensioners’ Association (MULBPA), Jammu Province was held here today under the chairmanship of its president BS Jamwal (Advocate) to discuss its long standing demand of extending benefit of medical allowance of Rs 1000 per month to J&K Government pensioners.
The meeting expressed anguish over the failure of the J&K Government in enhancing of medical allowance of pensioners from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month. The speakers said as J&K is now Union Territory, thus pensioners are entitled to get the same benefits which are provided to the Central Government employees and pensioners.
Speaking on the occasion, BS Jamwal said that J&K Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution to extend all types of benefits to J&K Government employees and pensioners at par with Central Government employees and pensioners and thereafter, all these benefits were extended to J&K employees and pensioners except medical allowance.
Stating that J&K employees have been getting Rs 300 per month medical allowance for more than two decades, the Association members strongly criticized J&K Administration for not releasing the orders to extend benefits of medical allowance at par with Central Government employees and pensioners despite repeated pleas of different associations of the UT Government employees and pensioners.
The Association members said that it is well known fact that medicine prices have increased to a considerable extent in last two decades and with a petty Rs 300 per month medical allowance, J&K Government employees and pensioners are feeling problems to meet their medical expenses. They appealed LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and issue orders for hike in medical allowance.
The meeting among others was attended by BD Verma, KG Khajuria, Jawahar Lal Sharma, Attar Singh, RK Gupta, Tarsem Lal Gupta, ML Gupta, Shiv Kumar Sharma, CL Koul, Harcharan Singh and JR Sharma.
