SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Wednesday welcomed the latest agreement reached between India and Pakistan to maintain peace and tranquillity along the LoC (Line of Control), exuding confidence that the move will bring huge respite to the people, who bear the brunt of heavy shelling and firing on the borders.
The agreement was arrived at the Brigade Commander-level Flag Meeting, held at Chakan da Bagh LoC crossing point on Monday, wherein both the countries resolved to follow the 2003 ceasefire agreement in letter and spirit.
Describing dialogue as a sustained and continuous process, Mufti Sayeed said the expectation of the people of both the countries is that Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharief, are able to meet on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly Session this week, as they are yearning for peace. “Bilateral talks between the two countries at the highest level will auger well and go a long way in building an atmosphere of peace and stability in the region,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister hoped that the latest truce between the two sides will last and both the countries will be able to resolve all issues amicably. “There is a mechanism available to settle the differences,” he said, while referring to the efficacy of holding talks across the table rather than talking through the barrel of the gun.
