JAMMU, Aug 5: Seeking support of every section of the society to establish a new system of justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the forthcoming Assembly elections would be an historic opportunity to change destiny of the people of this State. He asked the people to avail this opportunity to carve out a new path of peace, development and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
“If 2002 elections were turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir to restore people’s faith in the democratic institutions, the coming Assembly polls are historic in the sense that it would be an opportunity to change fate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, Mufti said while interacting with prominent citizens of Jammu city this evening.
Observing that the just concluded Parliament elections have already set a trend for the coming Assembly elections in the State, he said, “the way people of J&K have totally rejected ruling coalition in the Parliamentary polls is a clear indication that change is imminent in the State”.
“Let us work together to take the campaign for change to its logical conclusion”, Mufti said while seeking support of the civil society of Jammu. He said that political and economic empowerment of all the residents of J&K is main agenda of his party. He said that PDP, with the support of the people, is committed to set up corruption free system of justice and equality in J&K.
Reminding the people about the steps which were taken by PDP led Government in the State to ensure equitable development in the State, he said that his party was committed to accommodate wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions for the State while formulating policies and programmes. “We will present an exclusive vision document for the growth and development of Jammu region”, he promised, adding, “historic importance and sanctity of Jammu city would be restored at any cost”.
Elaborating PDP’s agenda for economic empowerment of the people, he said, “Jammu and Kashmir has huge natural resource in the form of water and it is on the top of party’s agenda to utilize this natural resource for the socio-economic growth of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Mufti said that PDP during its tenure had proved to how to deliver good governance and how to bring transparency and accountability in the governance. “People of the State are now comparing our three year tenure with the decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference regimes”, he said and added that PDP led government had established a system of governance which earned credibility and acceptability of the common masses.
The interaction was organised by prominent social activist Deepak Handa, who joined PDP along with large number of supporters today. Prominent citizens of Jammu city participated in the interaction.
