Mufti dedicates Water Supply Scheme to people

BAMZOO (ANANTNAG), Sept 22: To overcome scarcity of drinking water in Anantnag town and adjoining areas, Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today inaugurated the 4.50 MGD Bamzoo Water Supply Scheme, which has been funded under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT).
With the commissioning of the scheme, water supply in Anantnag town and adjoining areas will now be augmented with around 1.12 lakh people having access to safe drinking water.
The Chief Minister had last week commissioned the 10 MGD Sukhnag Water Supply Scheme in Budgam, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs.121 crore.
Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, A. R. Veeri and Minister for PHE, I&FC, Sukhnandan Kumar accompanied the Chief Minister.
Immediately after inaugurating the scheme, Mufti Sayeed inspected the Filtration Plant and Main Reservoir, where Chief Engineer PHE, briefed him about the main features of the scheme and the areas to be fed in the region.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 45.96 crore, Bamzoo Water Supply Scheme, sourced from Ahrigol and Mulsoo springs as well as Lidder nullah, will benefit 52 habitations which include areas like Paibugh, Iqbalabad, Kadipora, Laizbal, Anchidora, Nandpors, Batpora, Lidder Mouth, Khanabal, Batangoo, Pushwara, Reshibazar, Achabal, Mehndi Kadal, Donipawa, Mominabad, Dabruna and Ashajipora.
The work on the scheme was started by PHE Department in 2009 and its distribution network is spread over an area of 16.25 km.
Also present on the occasion were MP, Nazir Ahmad Laway, Legislators, Farooq Andrabi, Abdul Rahim Rather, Altaf Kaloo and Mohammad Yousaf, former Deputy Speaker, Sartaj Madni, Political Advisor to PDP President, Peerzada Mansoor, PDP South Coordinator, Mufti Sajad, Secretary PHE, I&FC, Pervez Malik, Director General, Information & PR, Zaffar Ahmad, DIG SKR, Nitish Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Muneer-ul-Islam, SSP Anantnag, Abdul Jabbar, Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir G. M. Bhat and several other senior officers of the PHE Department.
