MENDHAR, Oct 7: Demanding scholarship for ST students, Mendhar Student Union (MSU) here today under the leadership of its president, Dilshad Qadri, staged a protest demonstration outside Government Degree College Mendhar.
The protesters were holding placards and were raising slogans in favour of their demands.
Addressing the protesters Qadri said that students belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) category in J&K have been left in lurch since last one year as the Tribal Affairs Department has not released scholarship of enrolled students which is making it difficult for them to meet their educational expenses.
He informed that due to unknown reasons Tribal Affairs Department has withheld the scholarship of ST students.
“Since October 2019, the department hasn’t released scholarships of all pre-matric and post-matric students,” he said, adding that due to COVID-19 pandemic, scholarships were disbursed among other students quite early but only ST students were kept waiting.
The protesting students requested the authorities concerned to look into the issue at an earliest.
“We are facing a lot of difficulties owing to non-payment of our scholarship money and we are not able to meet our educational expenses,” a protesting ST student said.
The students urged upon J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to intervene into the issue.
