LEH, Apr 8: Former Ladakh MP and present LBA president Thupstan Chhewang said that the Apex body has not diverted from 6th Schedule demand but MP Ladakh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are trying to divert people’s attention from this demand.
Chhewang was responding to a query on 6th Schedule. He said 5th LAHDC passing resolutions on domicile law as safeguard for Ladakh is the clear intention of ruling party on 6th schedule. Thupstan added that Ladakh will not accept domicile law at any cost.
“We are waiting for Home Ministry invitation to discuss on safeguard and recruitment policy for Ladakh region and the Apex body had already submitted the list of committee to Home Ministry but MHA is yet to issue a circular in this regard” said Thupstan. He informed that Home Minister promised them invitation within two months to continue their talks but despite sending reminder from the Apex body, they were not invited till date.
“Seeing the present condition of Hill Council becoming powerless in front of UT Bureaucracy, the Apex body is realizing the need of more than 6th Schedule where elected representative should have more say in it” said Thupstan. He added that UT Administration is run by dictatorship bureaucracy without taking public representative into confidence which is very unfortunate. He added that in terms of power and function present Hill Condition is worse than the previous Councils.
Responding to raising unemployment issue in Ladakh, Thupstan said that they have proposed the Central Government to find out temporary a way out to fill up the vacant posts but Government did nothing and engaged all the existing district employees to run the UT Administration without creating fresh posts in UT Administration. Questioning the MP Ladakh and Hill Council to solve the unemployment crisis in Ladakh, Thupstan asked them to introspect.
