Motorcyclist killed in road mishap

KATHUA, Mar 12: A motorcyclist died in a road mishap at Jammu –Pathankote National Highway at Barnoti this afternoon.
He has been identified as Sunil Kumar, son of Krishan Chand of Kalibari Ward 16, Kathua.
According to police the youth was on way from Barnoti to Kathua when he hit a vehicle from back side on the highway.
He fell on the road and till the passers by lifted him, he breathed his last, police said. Later a police team rushed from Kathua Police Station to the spot and shifted the dead body to District Hospital Kathua.
The body has been kept in hospital mortuary and it will be handed over to family members tomorrow after postmortem.
The vehicle with which the two wheeler collided fled from the spot and the motorcycle was also without number, police added.
The Kathua Police has registered a case under Section 279/304.
Meanwhile people have expressed their grave concern over increasing road accidents on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway as in last three days five deaths of youth took place on the highway.
People said the highway has developed wide ditches at various places and the National Highway Authorities have failed to repair the same.
The people are demanding that civil and highway authorities should have a joint inspection of National Highway right from Lakhanpur to Jammu and start immediate renovation work.
