Robust plans in place to counter threats

JAMMU, July 2: Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy today visited BSF frontier headquarters here and received a briefing on the robust plans in place to counter the threats and challenges along the International border in Jammu and Kashmir.
He reviewed security situation along the International Border in Jammu region along with the top BSF officials especially in the wake of drone attacks on the Indian Air Force (IAF) Station at Satwari recently and preparedness of the BSF to counter such attacks on the borders.
The BSF has successfully intercepted drones and quad copters on the International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in the recent past.
The Union Minister of State for Home is also reported to have reviewed fresh ceasefire agreement on the borders since February this year which is in force barring minor violations by Pakistan.
There has been no major infiltration along the International Border.
Reddy lauded the border guards for successfully eliminating the threats from across the border.
Reddy visited the Frontier Headquarters, where he was given a detailed operational presentation on the current security situation along the IB by Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier, N S Jamwal, a spokesperson of the force said.
During the presentation, the spokesman said Jamwal explained the threats and challenges on the Jammu border and a robust border domination plan of BSF in place to counter these challenges.
“The Minister was also shown the different systems and innovation techniques adopted by the force to neutralize the trans-border threats from the counterpart side,” the spokesperson said.
He said the Minister also addressed a Prahari Sammelan’, where about 250 BSF officers and men were present.
Reddy paid his tribute to the BSF who had made supreme sacrifice for unity and integrity of the country and lauded the capabilities of BSF personnel who work in different conditions, be it snow bound areas, or hot desert terrain, or difficult area of Rann of Kutch or malaria prone stretches or Naxal prone areas of the country.
He emphasized that BSF, being the first line of  defence, has been doing excellent duties on the IB specially in Jammu sector and is very successful in eliminating the threats from its counterpart, be it infiltration, tunneling, smuggling or drones.
Reddy told the audience that it is a matter of pride for him to see the ‘Mahila Praharies’ sitting amongst Jawans and rendering their services on the border  with equal zeal and enthusiasm,” the spokesperson said.
He said the Minister appreciated the recent success of Jammu frontier wherein the BSF troops were successful in eliminating intruders from across the border, seizing large quantities of narcotics and detecting underground tunnels on Jammu border.
He complimented the BSF for shooting down a Hexacopter, coming from across the border, carrying Arms and Ammunition in Samba sector last year, the spokesperson said.
Reddy also said that due to relentless efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the BSF has been provided with modern weaponry and state of the art technology to effectively guard the International borders against the new threats.
He said the Central Government has been working continuously to provide all possible assistance to BSF men.
The Minister wished BSF a great success in all its future endeavors and reposed huge faith on its capabilities, the spokesperson said.
