JAMMU, May 7: More organisations have welcomed the Delimitation Commission report submitted by it to the Law Ministry at New Delhi on Thursday.
Y.V. Sharma, spokesman BJP, today said the Delimitation Commission has, for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, applied all the parameters mandated by law in a judicious manner to carve out the constituencies which will provide populations living in diverse geographical areas of the Union Territory an equitable opportunity to exercise their democratic rights.
In a press conference here, today, he said that it was a clear break from all the past exercises, which were carried out in the aftermath of the bad precedent that was set just after Independence when, in a completely autocratic manner, only 30 seats were arbitrarily allocated to Jammu and 43 to Kashmir after throwing all norms to the winds.
Chairman Sikh United Front (SUF), Sudarshan Singh Wazir while welcoming the report demanded that 50 percent of the 24 seats in the Assembly, reserved for the areas under illegal occupation of Pakistan, be given to the PoJK refugees on their area-wise population.
The two seats for Kashmiri migrants should focus on Pandits, Sikhs and other displaced communities from the Valley, Wazir told reporters here.
“We welcome the proposed recommendation of the Delimitation Commission for PoJK refugees and Kashmiri migrants…we want the Government to ensure equitable distribution of the seats without any favour to anyone,” he said.
Movement for Justice For Refugees of 1947 from PoJK (MJR47) has welcomed the recommendation of seats for PoJK DPs.
In a statement issued here, today J S Sudan convener MJR47 said “We feel that the Delimitation Commission though failed to give us full justice by not interpreting the provisions of Section 13,14 and 60 of J&K Reorganisation Act ,2019 but we are highly grateful to the Commission for appreciating the contentions of our organisation by presenting the recommendations to the Government”.
Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust also welcomed the report which recommended reservation of nine seats for STs in J&K. It further demanded that Rajopuri and Anantnag Parliamentary seat be also reserved for the STs.
