JAMMU, Oct 25: A team headed by Dr S L Mehta, Ex-Deputy Director General Education, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), visited Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST- Jammu) to review the budgetary support provided to university under 12th Plan Period and its impacts on the strengthening of higher agricultural education.
The other members of the review team were; Dr  Kusumakar Sharma, former ADG, HRD, ICAR; Dr  Vanita Jain, Principal Scientist, ICAR; and  D  D  Verma, Comptroller, NDRI, Karnal. The team took stock of the impact of financial support on academic programmes, available infrastructure, sports facilities, scientific lab equipments, experiential learning units, sub-tribal plan, library etc.  The team visited different divisions of the university, library, hostels and experiential learning units to assess the strengths of University and interacted with students and faculty.
The high level committee also had two interactive meetings with the statutory officers of the University for getting their feedback regarding the impact of the ICAR grants in improving higher education i.e. teaching and research.
Earlier, a detailed power-point presentation regarding impact assessment of ICAR grants was presented by Dr Deepak Kher, Nodal Officer, ICAR Cell of the University. Dr S L Mehta, chairman of the team, appreciated achievements of the University and commended judicious utilization of the ICAR grants received by the university during last five years.
The Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu,  Dr  Pradeep K  Sharma was of the view that financial support provided by the  ICAR through central development assistance has proved very beneficial in improving the quality and infrastructure of education and opined that ICAR assistance should be enhanced for further improving the state of agricultural research and education in India.
