JAMMU, May 23: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla has alleged that ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by Modi Govt in the country has proved as a flop show in the J&K state.
Addressing party workers in Nai Basti area of Gandhinagar here today, Bhalla said that the work to set up a modern drainage system, which was started six months ago, has not been resumed at Nai Basti. There is growing resentment among the residents against the Government as despite repeated pleas to the officials concerned, no step is being taken to start the work.
Bhalla further said that from the promise of Hindu Chief Minister for the first time to settling Kashmir Pandits in separate colonies to providing citizenship rights to PoK refugees, BJP has done nothing regarding these poll promises and now the Jammu regions feels cheated and betrayed by the party for sake of power. He said that the area was supposed to be the model commercial area of the temple city, but the failure of the civic authorities to maintain sanitation in the lanes, by-lanes and delay in improving infrastructure has created unhealthy conditions.
“Heaps of garbage, potholed roads, stagnant water and blocked drains tell a tale of the indifferent attitude of the authorities towards the place, created exclusively for offices and high-end shoppers. Looking at the plight of the area, it seems that there is no coordination between any of the Government departments,” Bhalla maintained.
Worried by the declaration of Jammu being the dirtiest city by Union H&UD Ministry recently, former minister was shocked to see the demolished culverts all over the filthy sewer line running through the area which had wrecked havoc in the entire ward. Amazed by the pathetic condition of the area, Bhalla said that the Govt authorities had senselessly demolished the culverts over the running sewer line which had exposed the nallah containing tonnes of human, animal and plastic waste.
Surprised by the heaps of garbage and solid waste scattered all over the streets of Nai Basti and its adjoining areas, he said that the dangerous unhygienic condition of the ward 23 had posed a grave threat to the public health and sanitation which would further worsen during the monsoon.
