JAMMU, Nov 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State spokesperson on Kashmir affairs, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said today that Kashmir was never a “serious political issue” because the accession was not conditional, and now revocation of Article 370 has paved way for complete reintegration of J&K with the Union of India.
Chrungoo, while addressing groups of intellectuals and students at party headquarters said, “The Home Minister’s reply on Kashmir situation in the Parliament on Wednesday was highly descriptive, apt and balanced,. Kashmir was never a serious political issue. Now there is a complete reintegration of the J&K with the Union of India, dialogue will only take place on the issues of delimitation and rehabilitation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits. For us, delimitation is the biggest issue at present.” he added,
He said “There is one more important issue and that is the liberation of PoJK from the illegal occupation of Pakistan”.
Chrungoo said that the revocation of Article 370 was on the BJP’s agenda since its inception. “The party was waiting for the right time. In 2014, when BJP came to power, the discussions and debates about revocation of Article 370 and 35A filled the air,” he added.
He said that in 2019, when BJP won with the thumping majority, the party started the preparations to abrogate Article 370. “Before announcing the final decision on August 5 this year in the Parliament, all the homework had been done in this regard,” he added.
The BJP spokesperson said, “that detention of political leaders, snapping internet and mobile services and imposing curbs were preventive measures to ensure that no law and order problem arises. And the plan worked, despite shutdown for over three months in Kashmir, situation is slowly limping back to normal, transport is hitting the roads and shops too are opening now.”
He said that it was for the first time that people of Kashmir didn’t resort to violent means of protest over the past three decades. “There was no major law and order issue in any part of Kashmir after 5-6 August decision, which shows Narendra Modi Government is working in right direction”, he added.
He appealed to the Lt. Governor and the UT Administration for restoration of internet services to media houses in all parts of Jammu and Kashmir including Srinagar.
