JAMMU, May 26: The Joint Forum of KP organizations while congratulating the new Union Government led by Narendra Modi, said Kashmiri Pandits are hopeful that the new Government will take cognizance of the plight of the displaced KPs on a war footing and initiate measures to ameliorate their sufferings.
At a joint press conference here today addressed by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, president PK, H L Chatta, president ASKPC, H N Jattu, president, AIKPC, D N Kissu chairman ADKPUF, S Prem Singh, president KSDF and Virender Raina, official spokesperson Joint Forum said that there is no gainsaying that the previous Governments have done precious little in addressing the humanitarian and political issues concerning the community. “We sincerely hope and believe the new Government to generate a positive atmosphere and also to open new vistas  for the displaced minority community of Kashmir.
They said the new Government needs to take into account the observations of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that the acts akin to genocide have taken place against the Kashmiri Pandit community in Kashmir and a genocide type design may exist against them. The socio political conditions that existed in Kashmir at the time of exodus have not changed much since, they added.
They said the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs were never allowed to be implemented in letter and spirit by the politico-administrative set up of the State. Even the Union Home Ministry was never sincere and focused towards addressing the sufferings of the displaced community and instead it kept on dishing proposals after proposals on return that are never discussed with the representatives of the Kashmiri Pandit community, they added.
