JAMMU, Feb 3: Former ministers and senior Congress leaders Raman Bhalla and Yogesh Sawhney have said that Modi Govt has caused much damage to the Indian economy than COVID-19.
They were speaking in the monthly meeting of District Congress Committee Jammu – Urban at party headquarters in Jammu, held today to discuss major issues. Raman Bhalla vice president JKPCC, presided over the meeting.
Bhalla termed the Union Budget ‘disappointing’, saying that it lacked vision to revive the country’s economy. Reacting to the Union Budget, Bhalla termed it as ‘anti-poor, anti-farmer, directionless and disappointing.’ He further added that the budget serves the interests of industrialists. They have provided relief only to big industrialists. He alleged that setting aside COVID, Modi Govt has caused much damage to Indian economy.
“In this budget, no concrete measures have been taken to eradicate the grave problem of unemployment resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Middle class tax payers had thought that Modi Government will give them relief by making changes in the income tax slab but that didn’t happen. Every section of the society is completely disappointed with this budget,” said Bhalla.
He said that the financial resources of J&K have been severely affected by the COVID pandemic and people had hopes that special financial packages will be announced so that more employment could be created and the purchasing power of the public could be increased, but that also didn’t happen.
Sawhney discussed various strategies and programs to strengthen the Congress party’s groundwork in Jammu district during meeting. He urged the leaders to continue taking steps in the direction to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. He said that the genuine needs of the public should be addressed and that they should enable the public to recognize the ruses of the BJP and its divisive policies.
He alleged that the BJP has failed the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the Congress will step in and take charge. He shamed the BJP Government for being incompetent in tackling the economic crisis of the country and ignoring the middle class and poor. The former minister went on to criticize the recently released Budget for the FY2021 and warned off its repercussions for the public. He said that the budget passed by this Government was a sham as it did not offer any solutions to the real problems that the people are facing.
Senior leaders Manmohan Singh, Dr Ramakant Khajuria, Madan Lal Malager and others also spoke on the occasion.
