MoD agrees to airlift Ladakh passengers

JAMMU, Dec 13: The Ministry of Defence has agreed to airlift the stranded passengers of Ladakh from Sonamarg as soon as there is improvement in weather conditions.
The Defence Ministry agreed for air sorties for lifting of stranded passengers on the intervention of Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur.
An official handout said the weather conditions continued to be severe and on the directions of Mathur, all efforts are being made by the administration of Union Territory of Ladakh to coordinate with J&K Government to reconsider the decision to close Zojila Pass and make efforts to reopen Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
It added that the Lieutenant Governor held a high-level meeting in Leh to review latest situation on the highway.
The meeting was among others attended by LG’s Advisor Umang Narula and Commissioner/ Secretary R&B Rigzin Samphel.
