Mobile Towers

BSNL, the premier mobile services provider will be installing nearly 150 more mobile towers within 500 meters of the LoC and IB in Jammu and Kashmir. This is to improve connectivity in remote border villages of the State. It is a part of massive programme of expansion of telephone and optical fibre services in the State, and with that, all the 6417 inhabited villages in Kashmir will get telephone connections at a cost of 55 crore rupees for the current fiscal year. While all these efforts of Union Minister of State for Telecommunication and Information Technology, Sachin Pilot, are highly commendable, we hope he and the Home Ministry circles are convinced that installation of sensitive towers very close to the LoC and the IB in J&K does not jeopardize our security arrangement especially when we know how cleverly militants have been misusing modern communication technology to their advantage and agenda of subversion in the State. We understand the advantages of this bold and innovative step of the Ministry and we have no doubts that it is fully aware of the ground situation in J&K.
