SRINAGAR:
Two persons sustained bullet injuries when a mob clashed with police and paramilitary personnel in Kakapora town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district after trying to defy curfew-like restrictions today.
A senior police official said the restrictions were imposed in Kakapora and adjoining areas to maintain law and order in view of apprehensions that some lawbreakers might try to take advantage in the wake of yesterday’s gunfight in which LeT militant Talib Hussain Shah alias Umar was killed at Astan Mohalla in Kakapora.
Officials said the search operation near the encounter site was called off as there were no further recoveries from the debris.
About the clash, the official said the mob tried to defy the restrictions and pelted stones at the police and paramilitary personnel.
Two persons sustained bullet injuries in the retaliatory action by the security forces, the official said, adding both of them were shifted to a hospital here and their condition is stated to be stable.
Authorities have also placed hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Shabir Ahmad Shah under house arrest as a preventive measure, the official said.
A tight cordon was maintained around yesterday’s encounter area overnight to prevent militants from escaping.
A police spokesman said Shah was involved in a number of militancy-related activities.
“Shah was involved in firing incident at Pampore in which seven BSF personnel got injured. He was also involved in Galander attack in which two police personnel and one civilian got killed,” the spokesman said. (AGENCIES)
