JAMMU, Aug 21: The Higher Education Department of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today declared that the `Moalim-e-Urdu’ certificate course offered by the Jamia Urdu Aligarh is not equivalent to the B.Ed degree course of the J&K Universities.
While giving reference to the recommendations of the Equivalence Committee constituted by the GAD vide Govt order No. 1597-GAD of 2018 dated 25-10-2018, and examined during a meeting held on March 3, 2023, under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Govt, Higher/ School Education Department, Alok Kumar, an official spokesman said that as per the list of the Universities in the country maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Jamia Urdu Aligarh does not exist in the list and as such, is not recognized by the UGC, NCTE and by the University of Jammu or other Universities of the State/UT.
Moreover, the B.Ed course offered by the Universities of J&K UT are of two years, whereas, the Moalim-e-Urdu course offered by Jamia Urdu Aligarh is of one year.
In view of the above recommendations made the expert committee framed by the J&K Govt, `Moalim-e-Urdu’ course offered by Jamia Urdu Aligarh is considered “Not Equivalent” to B.Ed Course of the Universities of J&K. Now, in light of the above recommendations, the Govt order No. 140/HE of 2017 dated 08-03-2017 is withdrawn ab-initio, the official spokesman said.
