JAMMU, July 21: BJP MLC Ramesh Arora has taken up the issue of difficulties beings faced by people in obtaining record of voter lists for preparation of State Subject or other documents in Jammu Kashmir.
In this connection, the MLC has made a representation with Chief Electorate Officer, J&K and also sought direction from the Election Commission of India for necessary action.
In representation to the Chief Electorate Officer J&K and Election Commission of India , Ramesh Arora has apprised about the complaints of the persons facing difficulties in getting the voter list record because of inadequate maintenance of the same and lack of manpower.
The MLC said that he personally visited the record room and found that many pages of the record were either torn or missing while only one person was there for maintaining the record and preparing the copy with the result that maximum applicants did not find their names in the lists. “More than 5000 applicants are waiting for the response and many people do not get proper reply due to insufficient staff,” the said in the representation.
Stressing the need for providing adequate manpower to deal with the record and its maintenance, Mr Arora has also suggested digitalization of the same. “In case where the record is missing or not in a proper condition, the same should be re-constructed after secondary evidence and special instruction should be passed to avoid harassment to the people,” he said.
The MLC was hopeful of personal interest by the concerned authorities to set the things right by issuing necessary instructions in this regard.
