SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Militants today shot dead National Conference MLA’s security guard in South Kashmir district of Kulgam and critically injured a civilian while security forces busted a militant hideout and recovered grenades and other war like stores from it.
Police said that militants fired upon driver Constable Zahoor Ahmad Dar at Redwani Bala this morning. Zahoor Ahmad died on spot while another motorcyclist Zahoor Ahmad Allie son of Habib-ullah resident of Hawoora at Redwani Bala was injured in this incident. The injured was shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Allie is an NC Panch and was with Dar on a mortar cycle when militants targeted them. Dar’s father, Ghulam Rasool Dar, was an NC worker and Sarpanch of the village.
Zahoor Dar was security guard and driver with Abdul Majid Dar, who won the Assembly elections from Homeshalibugh constituency of district Kulgam. He had come home and was killed by militants outside his house.
Senior Police, para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Army officers reached the spot and searches were launched to nab the militants responsible for the killing of the constable. Police sources said that Dar was killed by militants of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Police said that Bhat is survived by wife, two minor children, an unmarried sister and old aged father.
Dar is the first security force personnel killed in 2015 and so far six militants were killed by security forces in two successful operations against militants in Kashmir valley.
In the meantime, police and Army busted a hideout in the Tral forests of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A police spokesman said here: “On a tip off, Awantipora police, 42 RR and 185 battalion of CRPF launched a search operation in the forest area of Saimoh, in Tral. During the search, a hideout was busted. Nine UBGL grenades, two hand grenades, two detonators, a binocular, LPG cylinder, four blankets, two pressure cookers, two emergency lights and other utilities were recovered from the hideout.”
Police have registered a case and investigation has been taken up.
