MLAs discuss water, irrigation issues with PHE, I &FC officers

JAMMU, Feb 11:  Eleven MLAs from district  Jammu and Vijaypur in Samba in a meeting with Commissioner/ Secretary PHE, I&FC and concerned Chief Engineers and others discussed  the issues related to drinking  water and irrigation with the concerned officers.
The meeting with the  Dr Pawan Kotwal, Secretary PHE, I&FC  was held at the PWD Guest House Gandhi Nagar to address the issues related to their  respective constituencies in Jammu and Samba district the other day.
The MLAs  who participated in the meeting included,   Kamal Arora from  Bishnah, Sukhnandan Choudhary from  Marh,  Kavinder Gupta from Gandhi Naqar,  Chander Parkash  Ganga from Vijaypur, Dr Gagan Bhagat  from RS Pura,  Bali Bhagat  from  Raipur – Domana, Sham  Choudhary from  Suchetgarh,  Rajesh Gupta from  Jammu East,   Sat Sharma (CA) from   Jammu West,  Rajeev Sharma from  Akhnoor and  Dr  Krishan Lal  from  Chhamb.
Chief Engineer, l&FC Jammu  H C Jerath,  SushiI Aima, Chief Engineer, PHE  Jammu along with  Superintending Engineers,  Executive Engineers of  the PHE,  I&FC Department of  Jammu District participated in the meeting.
MLAs  put forth the demands of  their respective constituencies besides bringing in the notice of the department  the various issues pertaining to these departments and gave valuable suggestions  regarding  effective management  of the field staff, proper co-ordination among the Civil and Mechanical  wings, provision of  standby Machinery at all pumping stations, maintenance and prompt plugging  of  leakages, provision for special electric feeders for PHE pumping stations, imparting technical   training to  Mechanical  staff engaged for running of  machinery, commissioning of ongoing schemes on priority instead of taking new schemes,  installing safety devices at pumping stations, providing adequate T&P to the field staff and providing adequate funds for clearing  liabitity on account of tankers and silt  clearance.
The  MLAs demanded for taking up on priority the flood protection works and making  functional all the defunct  lift  irrigation schemes.
Dr Kotwal extended gratitude to the MLAs for their valuable suggestions and issued necessary directions to the Chief Engineers to co-ordinate with the MLAs while framing the plan activities. He further directed  the Executive Engineers to conduct joint tours of the constituencies along with the concerned  MLAs and take necessary action for mitigating the problems of the public.
