KATHUA, Feb 17: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Dr Bharat Bhushan has called on industrialists in Kathua to prioritize the employment of local youth in their units.
Speaking at a meeting held at the IID Centre in the SICOP conference hall, Dr Bhushan emphasized the importance of providing jobs to the educated and skilled youth in the region.
The meeting was attended by key officials including General Manager of District Industries Centre Kathua, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, District Pollution Control Officer, and representatives from SICOP and SIDCO.
Also present were Ajit Bawa, President of Kathua Industrial Units Association, Rajinder Gupta, Vice-President of Kathua Industries Association, and several industrial unit owners.
During the meeting, Dr Bhushan inquired about the manpower needs of various industrial units and how many local youth have been employed.
He urged industrialists, especially those setting up new units, to hire local talent, as Kathua now has a sufficient number of educated and skilled youth ready for employment.
In response, the industrialists assured they would give priority to local candidates and raised several issues, including the need for improved inner roads in industrial estates, the establishment of a fire station, street lighting, and a Skill Development Centre in Kathua.
Dr Bhushan assured the attendees that he would address these concerns with the relevant authorities.
He also instructed the General Manager of Industries to set up a Help Desk, led by a senior officer, to coordinate youth enrollment and placement in industrial units.
Ajit Bawa, President of the Industrial Units Association, expressed hope that such interactive meetings would continue regularly to benefit both industries and local youth.
