KATRA, Nov 10: A special Handloom Expo-2013 ‘Magical Weaves’ was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ‘Spiritual Growth Centre’ Katra by MLA Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma.
The 18-day long Expo is being organized by Directorate of Handloom in collaboration with the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India.
District Development Commissioner Reasi Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, SSP M S Chauhan, Additional SP Kulbir Singh, besides prominent personalities of Reasi, civil and police administration officers including people in large numbers were present on the occasion and witnessed the Expo.
In all, 42 cooperative societies including 10 from Kashmir Division and 3 Handloom Clusters are participating in this Special Handloom Expo.
The Expo aims at providing marketing opportunities to the handloom weavers and cooperative societies. During the Expo, handloom products are marketed at heavy discount for which department also provides reimbursement in the form of 10 percent rebate claim on sales.
The main objective of organizing Special Handloom Expo is to enable the consumer to purchase handloom products from different parts of State under one umbrella.
It also serves as a window for providing awareness among consumers about latest designs and fabrics being produced in Handloom Sector and to encourage innovations in design and latest techniques.
The Member Legislative Assembly Baldev Raj Sharma accompanied by District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary inspected the stalls displaying handloom products like Pashmina Shawls, Linen Fabrics, Kishtwari Blankets, kanni Shawls etc. During the inaugural ceremony, a scintillating cultural programme was also presented by the artists of cultural wing of Information Department.
