SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, MLA Amira Kadal and a former Minister, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Bukhari apprised Governor about a range of issues relating to development of his constituency and initiatives taken for public welfare.
Governor and Bukhari discussed about the steps required to provide opportunities to the youth to hone their skills in the arenas of sportsand cultural activities.
Governor emphasized the crucial importance of making grass root level democratic institutions vibrant for bringing about holistic development of towns and villages. He urged Bukhari to continue his sustained endeavours for promoting peace and development in the State.
Sheikh Abdul Rehman, former Member Parliament also met Governor and discussed about a range of issues relating to the growth and development in the State and maintenance of peace and normalcy. He also apprised Governor about various development issues of Chenab Valley region.
Governor urged Rehman to continue his sustained endeavours for promoting public welfare.
Meanwhile, a delegation of J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, led by its President B.S. Slathia, called on Governor and requested him for increasing number of Judges in the Subordinate and Higher Judiciary, formulating suitable insurance and pension schemes for lawyers, sanctioning stipend to new entrants in the profession, provision of a housing colony/flats and a recreational complex for lawyers, declaring Maharaja Hari Singh’s Birthday on 23rd September as State Holiday, release of funds for incomplete Multi-tier Parking Project in the High Court Complex at Jammu and Primary Health Centre inaugurated in the years 2005 and 2012 respectively.
The delegation apprised the Governor about the Association’s views regarding the equitable economic, social and political development of all the three regions of the State; government patronage to languages spoken in Jammu province including Dogri, Punjabi, Hindi, Gojri and Pahari and expressed concern about illegal settlement of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi migrants in the State.
Governor assured due consideration of all issues raised by the delegation and urged them to continue to work for welfare of the people of the State.
Dr. Jasper Wieck, Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy, New Delhi and Thomas Schmidt also called on Governor and discussed matters relating to further strengthening of the Indo-German understanding and about various political, economic and social issues relating to J&K including development of modern infrastructure in various sectors like tourism, energy, aviation etc, launching of welfare schemes for old aged, widows, disabled and other disadvantaged sections of the society.
Governor informed Deputy Head of Mission that with a consideration to provide momentum to infrastructure development in the State, Jammu and Kashmir Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation has been approved for establishment with the authorization to raise a loan of Rs 8000 crores for completion of languishing projects.
Governor mentioned about various initiatives taken by his administration for providing enhanced opportunities to youth of the State in the arena of sports including having State’s own IPL team, playing IPL matches, construction of international level football and cricket stadia etc.
Governor discussed about the importance of the upcoming democratic exercise in the State where candidates will be elected by people to Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats which are the grass root level democratic institutions with a vision for ensuring balanced development of villages and towns.
